The Hyundai Veloster R-Spec is an evolution in Hyundai’s learning to build a hot hatch in real time. The standard Veloster is a cheap econobox in a funky suit; and the Turbo model adds speed but little else. With the new R-Spec, the entire rear suspension architecture is redesigned for significantly improved body control; better wheels and tires are standard, as is a short shift kit, and you get other tweaks and trim bits, all packaged in one of the cheapest hot-hatches around.

In this video, I comment on the poor placement of a wire from an ECU above the pedal box, which blocks my foot’s movement. I note it in the video, but again, this is not an error in design or placement, rather, the tie-down which should hold the wire, has broken in my test car.

Hyundai of North America provided the vehicle, insurance, and a tank of fuel for this review.
